Occupational Risk Prevention is a speciality that aims to protect the health and safety of employees in their workplaces.
In Spain, Law 31/1995, of 8 November, on the Prevention of Occupational Risks, identifies as occupational risks all the possibilities that workers may suffer harm derived from the work they perform, whether it is an injury, illness or pathology. The prevention activities and measures that companies must put into practice focus precisely on identifying these risks in order to avoid them or reduce the likelihood of their occurrence, as well as the damage they may cause.
Since the entry into force of this law, all companies must have an occupational risk prevention plan, a document in which they reflect the risks intrinsic to the activity they carry out and the specific measures to prevent their occurrence.
According to data from the Annual Report on accidents at work in Spain, prepared by the Ministry of Labour and Social Economy and the National Institute for Safety and Health at Work, INSST, 647,495 accidents at work with sick leave were recorded in 2023. Most of them occurred during the working day, specifically 558,936 accidents, representing 86.3%. The rest, 88,559 accidents, occurred during the journey from home to work or vice versa.
The sector of activity with the highest incidence rate was Construction, which is more than double the average of the sectoral rates. In 2023, there were 616 fatal accidents at work during the working day, representing 0.1% of the accidents suffered by all salaried workers.

With these data, the need to continue improving and perfecting the prevention of occupational risks is fundamental, which is why digitalisation has been playing a very important role in prevention for some years now, improving the efficiency of work teams, with the greatest guarantee of execution and compliance with regulations.
Acciona: Remote inspections and audits
Under the name of PRL Remota, Zerintia Technologies has implemented its 4Smartworker Remote Support tool in Acciona’s Smart Centre in Madrid, allowing the multinational to carry out inspections and audits in PRL in work centres remotely and in real time.
The remote support tool allows prevention technicians and experts to connect with each other in real time, with the best video quality even in adverse conditions of connectivity and coverage, and maximum security, using the latest technological advances in Artificial Intelligence and Augmented Reality, and using any device.
The work centres have different devices with which they can connect through the application and, from the Smart Centre, compile all the documentation required for the inspection, verifying the working conditions remotely and reducing travel time and costs.
Acciona is able to maintain reliable traceability during the connection, generating around 200 pieces of evidence per inspection, in image and video, enhanced thanks to its different functionalities, such as Augmented Reality pointers or drawings, screen freezing or zooming’.
Another of the solution’s strong points is its real-time text and voice translator, which makes it possible to communicate in the best possible way with the prevention technicians present in the workplaces when the interlocutors do not speak the same language.
The integration of the remote support solution in the Acciona Intelligent Centre also means a new optimal communication channel in the event of an alarm, reducing response times in the effective identification of any risk.
Acciona’s adoption of this technology is just one example of how digitalisation can improve Occupational Risk Prevention.
