How to prioritise a production order?

A production order (PO) is a document that describes in detail how the complete production of an item is to be carried out, taking into account different aspects. Within a PO, the stockpiling of materials, for example, indicates the quantities of items to be taken out of the warehouses in order to complete the PO.

Within a PO, purchases and subcontracting are other aspects to be highlighted, where all the purchases of materials and subcontracting of operations necessary to manufacture the item are indicated.

In addition to these aspects, in an OP, the operations and hours worked to carry them out, the quality controls, the entry of expenses or the calculations of costs and hours are also entered, where all the operations of the workers in different OPs are noted down and the time worked and the performance of each one of them can be calculated, as well as the costs and prices foreseen.

How to prioritise a production order?

As you can see, the production of an item can be completely managed by means of the OP. Very often, in a production plant it is necessary to establish (or modify) the order of the PO to be executed, so having the ability to prioritise easily and dynamically becomes essential.

To achieve this prioritisation, it is necessary that the person in charge has all the necessary information to do it in the best possible way. In this way, he or she will be able to:

– Plan production and supervise its execution
– Assign production orders to the most appropriate employee.
– Integrate the necessary information to carry out the task
– Assign production orders to the most appropriate employee
– Manage priorities and workloads, thanks to asset and employee analysis
