PRL Online: video calls, checklists and automated reports for inspections and audits

The objective of the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) specialty is to protect the safety and health of employees in their workplaces.

In Spain, Law 31/1995, of November 8, 1995, on Occupational Health and Safety, identifies this discipline as all the possibilities of workers suffering harm derived from the work they perform, whether it is an injury, illness or pathology.

Therefore, all prevention activities and measures implemented by companies are focused on identifying these risks with the aim of avoiding them or reducing the possibility of their occurrence, as well as the damage they may cause.

Since the entry into force of this law, all companies must have an occupational risk prevention plan, a document reflecting the risks intrinsic to the activity they carry out and the specific measures to prevent their occurrence.

OHS Online

The context of digitalization in which we currently live has had a high impact on any specialty or economic activity. Occupational Health and Safety has been no exception, a fact that has allowed it to improve the efficiency of its work teams by many percentage points, while maintaining two of its most important guarantees: correct execution and compliance with regulations.

Remote PRL inspections

Video calls, checklists and automated reports

The online nature of the OHS allows any inspection or audit to be carried out remotely via video call. This video call is also enhanced by different Augmented Reality tools, such as a pointer, the ability to make drawings on the image, a built-in voice-to-text translator, or the ability to make evidence.

But there is more. Video calling is just one of the tools that online OHS enables. Checklists, for example, are the tool that allows processes to be carried out ‘in situ’ by the OHS technician, or online by an expert from miles away, digitally. In addition, any action taken during the OHS work, whether in the video call or checklist, is recorded in an automated report that can be sent directly to clients or shared internally.

Acciona’s success story: Remote OHS inspections and audits

Under the name of PRL Remota, Zerintia Technologies has implemented its remote OHS inspections and audits tool (with the commercial name of 4Smartworker) in Acciona’s Smart Center in Madrid.

The multinational company can thus carry out OHS inspections and audits in work centers remotely and in real time, saving travel costs and the time of its technicians, thus improving efficiency.

4Smartworker allows prevention technicians and experts to connect with each other in real time, in a video call that has the best video quality even in adverse conditions of connectivity and coverage, and maximum security, using the latest technological advances in Artificial Intelligence and Augmented Reality.

Acciona’s ‘modus operandi’ is as follows: from the Intelligent Center all the necessary documentation is compiled in the inspection or audit, verifying the working conditions remotely thanks to the connection with the OHS technicians who are in the work centers.

These technicians have different devices with which they can connect through the application, such as smartphones, smartglasses, PCs or tablets. Acciona is able to trace any connection, generating around 200 evidences per inspection, in image and video.

The adoption of this technology by the multinational is just one example of how digitization can improve Occupational Risk Prevention.
