Zerintia’s Smart Glasses technology has been provided to the Universidad Católica de Murcia (UCAM, Catholic University of Murcia) in order to study, within a controlled environment, the potential use of these wearable devices on medical and healthcare environments. We use Google’s smart glasses (Google Glass), but any model of smart glasses may be used: Hololens, Atheer, Vuzix or Epson, among others.

The goal was to evaluate the effect of telematics-based assistance, via Smart Glasses ( Google Glass®), by a remote expert physician for the proper execution of an orotracheal intubation (IOT), which was performed as a clinical simulation by outpatient care nurses.

UCAM randomly distributed the voluntary nurses of Murcia’s Gerencia de Emergencias 061 (Emergency Management) into a group of 25 nurses, telematically assisted via Smart Glasses (GpG), and a group of 25 unassisted nurses (GpC).

The conclusions, even though a greater quantity of tests is required, have been conclusive: Telematics assistance by a remote expert physician using GG improves the percentages and times of a properly-performed IOT by outpatient nurses under simulated clinical situations.
