Improving prevention of Occupational Hazards with Wearables

During 2013 there were 468 030 accidents reported in Spain. During 2014 the total number of accidents in time work grew from the previous year -something that has not happened since 2007- by 3.2% and 1.6% in the case of fatal accidents.
Our solution to prevent occupational hazards “Occupational Risk Prevention App (ORPA)” allows you to monitor the worker when going to perform a task that carries some risk. The operation is quite simple:

1. The worker, before starting job, must activate the App and it starts monitoring a number of biometric parameter: temperature, drafts, pedometer, etc. Other sensors such as Ambient light, UV or barometer can be added.
2. If pulse is rising or falling outside the limits (for example: 185 BPM) is detected or a fall, the clock will launch an alert that in case of a false alarm the employee may cancel the alert.
3. If it’s not stopped within 10 seconds, the application will alert the plant that may result in a call, SMS, Email or any other defined process.
4. The alert will also include information about the GPS position of the worker or the last biometrics taken.

In Zerintia, we designed the app for Smart Watches, for Samsung Gear S, which has a SIM card for itself and doesn’t need to be connected to any clock or for Android Wear and Apple Watch, which do need to be connected to a mobile to send alerts.
From the configuration screen and Dashboard, we can define the ranges for each worker or leave the default limits for keystrokes, which will be based on age, sex and history of the person. You can also define the parameters of what action to perform in case of alarm.
With this app we aim to expedite the prompt attention of accidents in the workplace and / or prevent accidents by launching alerts to the worker or the workplace based on established limits.
